Now they're pushing SSRIs as The Answer to all anxiety disorders -- PD, OCD, SP, GAD, and PTSD. It's probably going to become harder to get the benzos even though they are at least as effective and better tolerated.

On to Buspar: I think Buspar may be effective for some types of anxiety or depression, but the doses typically prescribed are too low. I encourage people who don't have any bad side effects at "normal" doses but who don't get any positive results either to try higher doses, perhaps as high as 120 mg. Doses of 45-90 mg have been found effective for major depression. I would like to see it (and/or similar drugs) explored more for this indication. I suspect that using these higher doses would get good results for many people with anxiety, too.
