In reply to Has Buspar finally helped someone ?, posted by Sigolène on November 10, 2001, at 3:31:56
You can try but buspar is not effective after benzo use for most. It was one of the first drugs I tried and was pretty useless, I got very dizzy when I took it and my panic and anxiety was not alleviated, I think you will see buspar go by the wayside within the next couple of years as far as monotherapy, I belive it is already a dead issue. The only use it has right now is augmentation purposes with another better drug as the base drug and buspar as an add on, It does have some prosexual effects as an add on agent but that's about all, because it raises seratonin alot of pdocs are afraid to add it to ssri's or serzone etc. In my opinion it is a perfect example of a drug created because of the huge amount of dissinformation and sterotyping about benzo use. Benzos work, they do not need to be cahnged or altered.......Oh by the way buspar is not all that innocous either. I had an awful time ramping up and coming off of it. So for a non addictive alternative it produced feelings of dependency and withdrawal like most benzos. I had to titrate down very slowly after 6 months of use it was then that I actually was prescribed benzos to get off the buspar and to get something that actually worked.
Good Luck;
Gil
