I've taken 100 mg/day of Nortriptyline for a few years now. The biggest problem I have is with dry mouth. I went through all of the "new" meds and never found anything effective. My father responded to amitrityline and took it safely for 25 years.
IMHO TCA's in many ways are a lot safer than the modern alternatives. Loko at the threads here about side effects and withdrawl problems caused by SSRI's, Effexor, etc. There is rarely a complaint from the people on TCA's.
Take the Nortriptyline with confidence but be aware that it has a theraputic window. You may have to play with your dosage to find the dose that gives you the most relief. Your doctor should be able to help in this respect with blood tests to help you target that level you will need.
Best of Luck - it works.
