I would agree with CAM that some form of psychotherapy although perhaps CBT in particular would be beneficial. Controlling anxiety is half the battle. Confidence builds. Also I would add that I found that although medication helped almost immediately with my depression the negative thought processes changed over a longer period of time. If CBT can potentiate the medication and speed up this process then all the better. I think more frequent CBT would certainly do this.

For your depressison. If you ahve already tried SRI's then you may consider a TCA because they are strong norepinephrine re-uptakers but there are now other medications that enhance norepinephrine and dopamine that you may tolerate better.

Can I ask why your physician initially gave you both Gabapentin and Xanax together? Does he have some experience that one of these may increase effectiveness of the other? Is this your experience?
