Cynthia -
I can't get into your head and say I know your fear, but I had panic attacks
when I was much younger than I am now, but 13 years older than you are now. This was
before antidepressants were on the market.
These two things helped me get through it. You need to have a qualified person (that is,
a medical professional you trust) assure you that you're not going to die from your panic -
as awful as it is, and keep reminding yourself of this. And second, you need to secure absolute and
reliable contact with a friend - doesn't even have to be a super close one - just someone with compassion and understanding. Someone who you can call
as often and whenever you need to for comfort - even at 4 in the morning. (When I usually experienced mine)
You also need to be aware that some of these antidepressants can cause inital panic reactions (ironically)
but they will subside in a week or two. There's a lot more I could say, but try what I've already said on for size.
Good luck and let me know.
