In defense of our health system, we can walk into any hospital and get treatment immediately, (well sometimes there is a four hour wait) and if needed a specialist will be called in. We did have a stint where you needed to show your health card before treatment but a child died from meningitis so now everyone gets treated. The reason for the needed health card was because non-residents not paying for services rendered.
In defense of the wait, when my father had his heart attack (he walked in pulse and blood pressure regular, I just had said to the attendants that we believed he had a heart attack) he was taken immediately, and when my daughter broke her arm again taken in right away.
Though we do need some enlightenment with mental illnesses. When my father's schizophrenia had flared we were left waiting so long that dad had insisted on leaving the hospital and during this time it didn't appear as anyone else was in the waiting room. The next time when I got him to return he had to say that he was suicidal in order to get a speedier admittance. Once he was seen by the psych nurse I explained that he wasn't. The nurse replied that we had done the right thing. Okay I'm starting to ramble ...
