I got disillusioned by Topiramate's 'anti-anxiety efficacy' after reading this article (there very well may some evidence to the contrary of this article, too--but I haven't found it yet):
GORDON, ALAN MD. PRICE, LAWRENCE H. MD. Mood Stabilization and Weight Loss With Topiramate. American Journal of Psychiatry. 156(6):968-969, June 1999:
"...In these patients, the substitution of topiramate for valproate resulted in significant weight loss. Mr. A, with bipolar disorder, experienced no loss of thymoleptic efficacy; Ms. B, with unipolar depression and impulsivity, experienced increasing depression and anxiety. Anxiety has been reported as an adverse effect of topiramate [1]..."
