Dr Baggage,
I am an expert on very few things, but one is the sexual side effects of ADs. I've had that problem for 10 years without a break. If my experience is a guide you should have your old sexual function back fully within about two to four weeks after cessation. Don't sweat it. What you may need to sweat about is finding an AD which does not give you that side effect, and I am afraid I cannot help you there. The commonly listed "low risk" ADs with regards to sexual side effects are Wellbutrin, Serzone, Remeron, Trazadone and Mianserin (if you are in Europe). I had very significant sexual dysfunction with them all and now am considering either accepting celibacy or ECT. I totally understand your situation. While I have been on ADs (from age 21 to 31, the present) I have met several "ones for me" but have had to keep my distance thanks to this problem. It is not a very good side effect when you are trying to build self confidence and esteem after/during depression. I have never succeeded in that task, thanks to that effect. Which is more stigmatising, ECT or impotence? I'm debating that one now. Anyway, forgive my rambling. Best of luck with finding the right girl and right AD. Remember that the side effects will go away in time after you stop taking the medication.
