> In South Africa, sulpiride (Dogmatil) is very frequently and effectively used for depression and/or anxiety at doses of 50mg tds to 100mg tds. Anyone know WHY it works for depression/anxiety? It's supposed to be an antipsychotic but works for depression/anxiety in lower doses. Also, I see references to something called amisulpiride on the net - is this the same thing as sulpiride or something else? Fluanxol (flupenthixol) is another antipsychotic that works well for depression/anxiety but I am curious to know WHY; that is, what is the hypothesized mechanism of action here. I'd appreciate feed back on either drug.
Hi. Some of the pharmacologists can explain *why* it works (I think it's something to do with working pre-synaptically @ low doses & post-synaptically @ higher doses). I have taken Sulpiride for a yr to control (but not cure) s. phobia with v. consistent results. Doesn't touch the depression tho'.
A couple of posters here have had good success with Amisulpride which, I think (but cld be wrong), works on D2/D3 whereas Sulpiride is selective for D3 only.
