Hello there.

Paxil is the only SSRI that is "FDA-approved" for panic disorder. But many doctors consider all the SSRI's (Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa, Prozac, Luvox) as "one class of drugs" so they often substitute one for another. For example, Luvox is only approved for obsessive-compulsive disorder but I've seen it used for depression as well.

Your doctor is probably using celexa because it's cheaper than Paxil, especially with free samples. The dose for panic disorder is usually the same as for depression.
