In reply to I can't take it. Dizzy and off Effexor for month., posted by Demi on January 21, 2001, at 10:58:19
> I took Effexor for just about a year and took 150 mg at the peak of my use. Several months ago, I attempted to get off the drug and weaned myself off according to doctor's recommendations. I was so intolerably dizzy that I cried and missed work until I started taking the drug again. I decided to wean myself off more slowly, but it took two months to work up the courage to do it again. I am now off the medication and have been so for maybe over a month now. The problem is: I am still dizzy and I can't stand it. I am dizzy every day. In fact, I'm dizzy right now composing this posting. I feel especially dizzy when I exert myself (exercise), when I lay in bed or otherwise repose, I feel dizzy when I come into a heated room, and numerous other instances. I just can't take it. Will this ever go away? I fear that this drug has altered my brain's chemistry forever. Is that possible? Is anyone experiencing dizziness after being off Effexor for at least a month, and are not taking another drug in its place? Someone please help. I am so angry about this I feel hostile and depressed all the time.
Hi Demi,
I hope this helps. I know that dizzy feeling and it's
horrible. Try flushing your system out. Lots of fluids
juice. That dizzy feeling will get better. Keep a cold
rag close. Put it on you head and neck alternating as
it seems to stop feeling cold. You can only wean down
so far then it just has to be cold turkey. I posted on
here what has worked for me. I read it as someone elses
success. And it is working. Another thing you might
try for the dizzy.... I remember reading someone said
it felt like vertigo with the dizziness.... I know a
lady that uses that stuff you put in your ears for
swimmers ear when her vertigo/severe headaches kick in
and it helps with the dizziness. It can't hurt. I've
done it for my ears when the get to ringing real bad
and I feel dizzy.Good luck. Hope this helps.
