It doesnt have any direct action on serotonin and noradrenalin which is common for the tricyclica.
Trimipramin is (as far as i know) the most sedating
antidepressant. It is often used for depression with insomnia. This comes from its effect on histamin. I took it over one year and had very good and fast sucess in my sleep quality. But there are some points to know: 1. You should take the hole dose 2 hours before you go to bed. Otherwise it leads to daytime sleepiness. 2. The side effects are usually not strong and bad when you increase the dose very slowly (25mg/week....use drops!!) but you may gain wait. 3. I think that the effect on mood is not as good as the SSRI and other tricyclica (that means more limited). Its more for depression with anxiety than melancholic types. 4. It has a weak dopamin antagonism (structural similarity to the neuroleptic chlorpromazin) which could be favorable for depressions with mild psychotic symptoms !?
In Switzerland it is very often prescribed because of the mild side effects.
I hope you can make decision if Surmontil is a drug for you.
But you know there is no one who can predict if its good for you or not. Its allways a try. Try and error thats how its works even in the year 2001.
Good luck
Ben
P.S. I am sorry for my bad english!
