Hi Saskia,
Welcome to Trazodone! :-(
First, I hate the drug, for exactly the reasons you stated: "hangover" in the morning. Here is what you can do to alleviate the majority of your problems: Have you heard of "titration"? It is the process of adjusting your dose for optimal effect. Since you are obviously taking too much, start reducing your dose by cutting tablets into halves, quarters, even eighths if you can. Each night take the smallest decrease in the dose you can measure reliably. Keep doing this until the "hangover" subsides. Now you have found your starting dose. After a few nights/weeks, raise the dose by that smallest increment again. Go up slowly until you can tolerate the full dose. I have a friend who takes 1-3/8 tablets -- that is the right amount for him!
Good luck,
Ted
> I recently starting taking trazadone for anxiety and depression and am having trouble waking up after 5 or 6 hours of sleep with a pounding heart and insomnia. Also, it makes me feel numb all over and kind of intoxicated. Does anyone else have this problem? My doctor says to stay on it and these side effects should subside. What is your opinion
