> hi sheryl, I have also been "hooked" so to speak, on opiates (including heroin). First of all its nothing to be ashamed of, opiates make you feel like superman! and they are wonderful pain killers, but, they can be addicting and have very unpleasant side effects. you have only been taking them for a month so your body probably isnt to "dependant"(like buffet said). the first thing I would do is tell your doctor exactly whats going on,he should uderstand. he can have you "taper off" and prescribe a milder narcotic such as darvocet, which I used successfully, to kind of "step down" from one medication to another and then eventually stop them all together. even if you just go "cold turkey" it will be unpleasnt for a couple of days , but your body will bounce and you will be back to normal. Good luck, and god bless! Rogdog
Good advise! Tell your Dr.. By the way, the natural opiates are addictive too. The Beta-endorphin rush is why runners get addicted to running and go out for a run despite heat, cold, monsoon, or blizzard!
Unfortunately for me, I am pretty tolarant of Percoset et. al. and following surgery needed twice as much as they gave me to get any effect. I didn't feel euphoric and disliked the fog.
Running isn't my thing either.
