Locking out uninvited internet guests

I don't know if this is relevant or not (I'm a computer novice when it comes to systems stuff), but I use a software called Zone Alert that tells me when an "unrequested" guest is poking around/has been sent to my computer when I'm on the internet. I operate in "stealth mode" so no response is given back to the that is sent to my computer. It also gives me the url number and other info about the uninvited guest if I request it.

I can also set which programs can and cannot cross into internet territory. It logs what internet access has taken place, and I can lock out the internet option to all activity when I want.

It's a good program. I have the free version that its maker allows for downloading. You can buy a fancier version if you want.
