If he is really bi polor he needs to be on meds for the rest of
his life. Bi polor is for life, biological in nature, and if not treated
ruins lives. Drug abuse is common. If a patient just needs meds once a year
in normal. AD's are not adictive but can be hard to get off. Bi polor can
be Dx'ed in a few sessions. If he has made it this far on just Effexor
consider him lucky, bi polor is often hard to treat and sometimes many
meds are needed. We do know if bi polor is not treated it always
gets worse sometimes to the point that it cannot be treated. How was he B4 the meds and how are his depressesive or manic episodes on Effexor?
In general most tell the family who has a member on meds to keep their negative opinions
to themselves about meds or talk with the patients doc. Bi polor has the highest risk of sucide
and very poor choices often are made while manic. Can you deal with this ? Do you know what happens if he is not medicated for a while ?
Bi polor is far more a signicant disorder
than depression. If he is doing well, help him remember to take his Effexor so he does not have problems.
Consult with his doc and express your conserns. Read up on bi polor so you know what is at risk.
I've taken Effexor since it came out with no problems and great results.james
