I've been with my boyfriend for a year now. His doctor prescribed effexor for him about six months before we started dating. He said his doctor diagnosed him as bi-polar after a few visits with him, and thats it, no follow up exams, nothing, just a years perscription of the drug. If my boyfriend dosen't have his medication he looses it. He gets encredible anxiety, has terible stomach pains, dizziness, all of the above. I am really scared for him because I think this drug has caused him to be dependant on it when I'm not sure if he should be on it in the first place. About three years ago he moved to huge Los Angeles from a small town in northern California to go to school. His parents split up that year, so he moved to a huge city, with about 50,000 dollars, and not a clue, fresh out of high school. He met a bunch of party animals, started doing drugs and blowing his cash. He did so many drugs at one point of his life he lost all his money and had to move home. Being depressed over a girl and how the drug benges ruined his life he went to the doctor, who perscribed him another drug. I see this as a negative form of therapy, rather than a positive life changing one. Now he is addicted to effexor and it scares me. I want to see him get therapy and wing himself off the drug, but his insurance dosent cover therapy, and its just more convenient to pop a pill than anything else right now. I just had to get this off my chest, please respond if you'd like. Thank you
