I currently am on elavil. I have tried the SSRI's but they caused agitation, nervousness, aggressiveness - Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Serzone. I have also tried St. John's Wort (same effect as SSRIs), trytophan (same again) and SAM-e (upset stomach, heart problems). I also tried imipramine as my mother had been on this medication. Also Desyrel (tried to convert to it while weaning off Elavil and crashed - also did not help my sleep or sex life).
The tried and true remedy for me has been Elavil but I don't like the carbohydrate cravings which caused a 20-25 lb weight gain. It is great for my sleep and anxiety which are important to me to keep.
I have read the archives about Remeron but Canada does not have it yet (at least that is what the pharmacist has said).
Would doxepin be comparable to the Elavil? Does it target the same receptors as Elavil? It sounds like it helps with sleep and anxiety and if it does not give me carbohydrate cravings, I would like to give it a try.
That's when I sat down here and typed this. I figure that there are more people on here who are as knowledgeable as the pharmacists. First hand experience goes a long way. So hopefully, I will get some feedback from you guys.
Thanks in advance.
