Noa & John - Cytomel™ was available in Canada until last year. I was told that they stopped marketing it because there was not enough demand for it (which I find hard to believe with the number of docs who asked me how to get ahold of some). We can order Cytomel from the U.S. if the doc writes Health Canada requesting it (ie need to fill out a form). I have not ordered it, but I have talked to Health Canada and it does seem fairly simple to order (except that most drug plans will not pay for it).
I have also heard that it was being remarketed in Canada, but I don't know the status right now. In place of it we are using Thyroid Hormone™ tablets with are some animal's dessicated thyroids. I believe that about 30mg Thyroid Hormone tablets contain 10mcg to 15mcg of T3 (liothyroxine) and 50mcg 0f T4 (levothyroxine) or equivalent to about 30mg of thyroglobulin. It's not as "clean" a drug as Cytomel (ie has more side effects because of the T4 component), but I have only had one person who could not switch from Cytomel to Thyroid Hormone (2.5mcg to 5mcg of Cytomel is approx. equivalent to 15mg of Thyroid Hormone or so it seems - this is the conversion we have used but it may not be the same for everyone - Your Mileage May Vary).
Hope this helps, Noa - Cam.
