>Should I take the tics as a warning sign of disaster ahead, or are they just transient effects of taking a mild stimulant (wellbutrin)?<
I wouldn't. The following is quoted from Patient Information on Buspar at www.rxlist.com:
"Notify physician if you develop muscle spasms, uncontrolled twitching in the face and body, or uncontrolled tongue or wjaw movements."
You don't say how long you've been on the Buspar.
Side effects aren't always obvious from the get-go, so there's a chance the Buspar could be responsible. I'm only a patient and have never taken Buspar. All I know is what I read. Also, it seems to me your question about the combo of Buspar with Wellbutrin could be valid. It seems to me that with Buspar being able to act as both D2 agonist and antagonist, as well as a 5HT antagonist and Wellbutrin being a D2 antagonist, you could be having the same kind of facial tics that are sometimes a side-effect of stimulants. I'm not saying I know for certain that's happening, but it seems plausible, especially since there appears to be little or no research on that particular interaction.
To get to the point:
I'd DEFINITELY be concerned enough to call my pdoc about the tics. The RXlist site does say that although controlled clinical trials haven't supported it as a conclusion, there is at least some evidence that Buspar can lead to long-term symptoms, such as TD or pseudo-Parkinson's, as well as others. If it were me, I wouldn't be taking chances with dopamine.
