Noa- I really wrote that LA thing in the spirit of hyperbole, humor, and entertainment.
As an LA native, of course I found some of the remarks on the thread previous to mine about LA a little stale, but I have the West coast attitude I guess, ie I'm not going to run to the computer and type "Oh, you're so wrong!" If people like take potshots at the big bad city - that's fine. I'll even join in. After all LA is a nightmare, but it's also one of the most exciting cities in the world right now. By that I mean culturally and just a kind of thrum of energy when you jam so many different kinds of people together. And just on a physical level, it's really kind wild here. In the last 5-8 years LA's had major wildfires, flooding, a massive earthquake, and a really bad riot. Whatever you say about LA, it's not boring. I saw a coyote on my street the other night; I can be in uninhabited mountains, or 50 story skyscrapers within a 15 minute drive from my house. I guess that why I stay.
That, and I don't quite have the money to buy a 5,000 acre ranch outside Sante Fe, New Mexico; but that's another story. ;^)
