> In the event, I took 5mg Tuesday night, went to bed at 8 pm, and awoke promptly at 12:15 the next afternoon. Whoops! Couldn't actually get out of bed for another hour. Made it to work at 4 pm. Had a GREAT day!! Didn't sleep very well last night, but OK considering I had chocolate cake for dinner. ;-) Still feel good today. I didn't take any Zyprexa last night, but I think I'll try 2.5mg tonight.
Hey Mark.Just a quickie...
Your doctor made an excellent, excellent choice.
Does he recommend that you remain on it?
When you have time, go back and take a look at some of the Zyprexa threads. Zyprexa is the first neuroleptic drug to be recognized as a mood stabilizer. It is certainly a potent antimanic agent. Being a mood stabilizer, it should have a prophylactic effect against recurrences of mania, and possibly depression. As such, you would want to take it every day. Some people experience a genuine antidepressant response to Zyprexa, and it is sometimes prescribed specifically for that purpose. I think the dosage usually suggested for depression is 5mg, although 2.5mg may work just fine. See how you do with the 2.5mg. For most people, sleepiness occurs only immediately after taking it (usually at bedtime). I don't think daytime drowsiness is much of a problem. Perhaps your experience with it the first day was only transient, and will dissipate shortly.
GOOD LUCK!
See ya' soon.
