Tina:
I am not Cam or Greg, but I do know exactly what you are experiencing. I take Paxil, not Celexa, but both seem to have the same side effect. An unbelievable craving for carbs and sweets. And yes it will cause a weight gain if you don't get a grip on it right now! I have gained over 20 pounds on Paxil over a 12 month period. My best friend, who took Celexa, gained 40 pounds in about 3 months. She actually went off the Celexa and is now trying to cope with her depression med free. Hers was brought on by grief, her husband dropped dead of a heart attack in the shower in May 1999 at 44 years old. She is a letter carrier for the post office and found the excess weight almost impossible to manage with her job. She was (and still is) suffering from ankle, knee, hip and foot pain...shortness of breath...so she gave up the ADs so she can get control of her weight. She cries alot...she doesn't go out socially at all...she is angry and irritable...she doesn't know if she can take much more.....I feel useless as far as helping her out.
Whoa..way off topic!! sorry!! Bottom line...YES the SSRIs can make you want to pig out and will make you fat if you are not very very careful. As Cam always advises...watch your diet, exersize regularly and vigorously (ewwwwwww!!!! I'd rather eat the ice cream!! 8) Which is why I haven't lost the 25 pounds yet!)
Hope things improve for you soon..hang in there!!
