Brofaromine (Consonar) or toloxatone (Humoryl) ?

Posted by Scott L. Schofield on April 16, 2000, at 12:50:46

Has anyone had any experience with either brofaromine (Consonar) or toloxatone (Humoryl) for the treatment of depression?

Brofaromine is considered to be a reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase type-A (RIMA), similar to moclobemide (Aurorix, Manerix). It has also been shown to significantly inhibit the reuptake of serotonin. This latter property is thought to contribute to its efficacy in treating both depression and social phobia. It may even inhibit the reuptake of dopamine to some extent.

I wouldn't even know where to get it. I know it is available in Europe. Someone once mentioned Germany, but I think it might also be available in Belgium and possibly Poland, Czechoslovakia, or Brazil.

Toloxatone (Humoryl) is another RIMA that I believe is currently being sold in France. I don't know very much about it

Any input would, as always, be appreciated. Thanks.
