I, too, am so sorry about your devastating loss. Hope you decided to go to his funeral..Do you think it might help you to write some of your feelings in a brief note of condolence? If you wanted to, but weren't sure about its reception, you could send it to his office. They could answer or forward it to his family as they thought appropriate. Just a thought.
When my father died suddenly of a massive stroke years ago, my mother was very comforted by the hundreds of people at his funeral, and by the even larger number of notes sent. She said it helped to know what a difference his life had made; she kept every note.
Maybe it will help that you will have something in common with your new therapist--you will both miss a good man.
