I've been trying SJW for the last 5 weeks and have found that it works pretty well for my dysthmia. I started with 300mg 3 times daily on the standardized 0.3% hypericin but after the first few weeks it's effectiveness "pooped out" some what. After being on that for 3 weeks I started taking Nature's Way "Perika" which is a new German version of SJW standarized to 5% hyperforin rather than hypericin. Over the last 17 days have found that it is working pretty well at eliminating my persistent depression. According to the literature that I've found on Medscape it inhibits the reuptake of serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine and consequently is mildly stimulating. So stimulating that I only take 300mg of it at 7am and at 1pm since the dinner dose was keeping me from getting to sleep and staying asleep.
Give it a try since it doesn't seem to have any negative sexual side effects and I find that it enhances response rather than eliminating response like the SSRI's do. I just don'
