Hi,
I don't have panic disorder, tho I've had a few mild panic attacks over the years. I've heard conflicting things about Parnate for panic -- it may make you anxious especially at first, but in the long run it's been shown to be good for it. Seems to be a coin toss: Marplan should be relatively calming, tho there's a significant chance it'll cause weight gain again, and Parnate could very likely cause higher anxiety.
Have you tried Paxil or Neurontin for social phobia? They could help. My personal pet theory is that social phobia can be helped by an SSRI + a dopamine-increasing med (which is in effect like MAOIs), but that's just my experience. I don't know much about panic disorder specifically.
The med I'm on is only available overseas. While it's good for social phobia, it does seem to increase my anxiety. It's a dopamine reuptake inhibitor.
Seriously, DO NOT let my toxic reaction to Parnate influence your decision. It's very rare. My "psychosis" on Parnate didn't involve acting crazy or hallucinations. It was weird, and would take forever to explain. I never had any signs of it before. I was on 90mg of Nardil with no problems in that area.
cheers,
anita

> I also have panic disorder. Are you strictly Social phobic if you don't mind me asking?? I am really in hopes parnate will work for me but am worried that it won't be "calming" enough with the panic disorder. Nardil had a calming effect for me.It worries me about you saying you had psychosis with parnate...whaT does that mean exactly??Have you had that before?? I was on 90mgs of nardil. What was your dosage?? I think that is an above average dose for nardil (90mgs).Hope I would not have to go to a high dose of parnate because of your experience on higher doses.
