Gail,
I seriously doubt you're nuts... :-)
SSRI's have helped tremendously with my PMS, but
maybe you're just a major Alpha babe...not even
an SSRI can dominate your hormones. On the other
hand, I've had the experience where I feel a lot
of premenstrual tension and bitchiness before my
period, and then when I get it I feel very peaceful
and calm, kind of like "whew!".
I've had times where I DIDN'T get the peace when
my period came, and the PMS feeling continued...
This happened for about 2 cycles...
Looking back, I think it was my "soul" trying to
tell me something. I think sometimes I get like
this when I need time alone and I don't give it
to myself. I'm not sure what your lifestyle is
like (maybe you have kids or something else consuming
that dosen't allow much time alone)...but I found
taking that time for myself helped ease the symptoms
alot. I hope this isn't a totally impractical
suggestion for you, it's just what worked for me.
Personally, even though it's sometimes hard and it
sucks, I think PMS is a spiritual time--for me,it's like
a time where it's impossible to lie to myself
about the things that are really bothering me--I
see and feel really clearly and powerfully at this
time and sometimes that's not easy. I've found it's a good
time to really reflect on what might be missing in
my life, or what I may need that I'm not
getting. Maybe the Recovering Gail is starting to
feel more demanding of life (in a good way).
Hope you don't think I'm a total flake,
but there's my 2 cents. Roo
