> I have had migraines and black-outs(fainting?) ever since I was a young teen. I have had suicidal thoughts since age 6, but never told anyone other than family members, who consider it normal and genetic (advice from Dad-pray more). I am now married and a mother of 5 children and was put on Verapamil about 5 months ago for migraines. I feel more 'normal' than I have ever felt in my life, but now see some of my thoughts and behaviors as a little off. I get 'hyped', go without sleep for 2-3 days, crash. I have self-medicated with alcohol and other substances since age 12. I medicate after the fact, when the darkness has already come. I stop the self-medication when I go back up and am 'hyped' again. I tried St. John's Wort and got VERY agitated, angry and suicidal. A nutritionist told me to keep at for a month.

James here...

This is the problem with herbs...they are not the harmless substances many think them to be. As SJW
is a MAOI it should not be given alone to someone who is bi-polar. If someone is going to take herbs for a condition that causes suicidal thoughts, they need to be under the care of a pdoc. No one should have to live with suicidal thoughts...get a refferal to a pdoc, please !
