By the way, I believe that Elavil is the brand form of amitryptaline (probably spelled incorrectly)--It's a quite sedating tricyclic with mixed serotonin/norepinephrine effects, a bit like imipramine (but far more sedating apparently).

Yes, sedating, the case of fibromyalgia (FMS)
the ability to sleep,at all, is a real problem.
And yes, in FMS serotonin levels are decreased--don't know why, so the elavil seems to help serotonin, therefore sleep, therefore pain in FMS.
THAT's as technical as I get. :-) janeDAVE---small doses achieved in MY case in a very unscientific way (remember I was 'prescribed/allowed' a larger dose. I cut a 10mg into fourths= 2.5mg (more or less) The goal was to sneak up on my body. jane
