help -finding a good doc and good meds

Posted by mila on March 31, 1999, at 12:59:53

I've been struggling with severe depression for over six years. I've tried prozac, paxil, celexa, effexor, xanax, zyprexa, and risperdal all to no avail. The risperdal worked a little bit but the side effects are not bearable. Meanwhile I went through four doctors. Presently i'm stuck going to a community health center doctor because i have no income. He is unwilling to increase the dosage of my meds, or change them, or anything. He castigates me for not being motivated even though lack of motivation is a typical symptom of depression. Does anyone have any advice on how to find a doctor who is well versed in psychopharmachology and who does not blame his/her patients for their misery? I'm looking for a good doctor in the tri-state area.
