What's the weather like where you are?

My doctor here spoke about walking around a lake in Connecticut where it was so cold the tears froze in his eyes.

It was 46C in Sydney the other day...the highest temperature there since records started to be taken.

So we have had

The most intense drought for 100 years from 1996 to 2006, more or less.

Then the 3 wettest years on record where there was continuous rain, and floods in many places, even in what are usually the dry months of spring.
(Then that suddenly stopped last July and it was continuously dry until now. There is a a cyclone from the north now.)

Then the hottest years ever where the temperature in Oodnatta actually broke the 50C mark.

It is one of the things about being here...the weather impresses by its unevenness. It has always been like that which is why Aboriginal land management practices fostered balance and abundance via careful burning, and population control. I have been reading this.....

http://www.amazon.com/Biggest-Estate-Earth-Aborigines-Australia/dp/174331132X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1359153186&sr=1-1&keywords=the+biggest+estate+on+earth+by+bill+gammage

the implications of which are very sad when I reflect on life in the country and how we saw things 50 years ago. Not that it is getting better, just different. If anything we understood the country a little better then.

The book mentions places where the vegetation cover is somewhat arranged, so to speak, places I know.

It's been in the high teens to 20's (Fahrenheit)
It's snowing lightly, pretty, but messy for travel.
It's been too mild of a winter, overall. I think I remember more snow in the past.
It's too cold right now to be out too much, and I'm someone who does not dislike winter. Summers are just too hot for me.

Your summers are humid, perhaps? Dry heat is fine with me but I feel unwell in humid heat

Here (where I live) the difference between the very highest temp and the lowest would be less than 30C, way less than yours?

I recall Deneb saying that when the weather was warm, around freezing, she could avoid wearing a coat outside.

The coldest I have ever been in was -15C in Prague a long time ago, before the wall came down and before public buildings were heated. It was a holiday for us to an unknown and forbidden place, we drank the contents of the room bar fridge, and then I had the strange sensation of not being able to speak properly. The extreme cold and the alcohol prevented me.....the muscles of my face would not do what I wanted them to do. Prague then felt like a fairyland ruled by evil wizards.

But you have had some extreme weather...that hurricane was unprecedented?

Australia is meant to be one of the places to watch for climate change because our climate is extreme and varied anyway, and dry.

There were just a couple of days?? Of 100 degree F, but it was a pretty warm summer. I like it in the 70's-50's, I guess that's fall weather? I like fall the best.
It is notheastern US I guess. :-)
I'd love to see the Pacific Northwest, haven't been.

Prague, the name sounds cold.

I want to live somewhere where I need sweaters and boots, but not where I'm braving the tundra and fighting a frostbite battle.
