How do you store your tablets and capsules

Posted by Lamdage22 on August 1, 2022, at 13:15:09

Do some of you also live in areas where temperatures go up to 100? I want to move my pills into a fridge and it looks like its like 60ish in there at the lowest setting. Now there is the problem of humidity and I read the fridge is usually too moist. In a panic I bought cat litter and now hope to get the humidity down. I can measure it. I had some stuff already in there over night and it was really humid.

How quickly do pills and tablets take damage if they are stored improperly?

Humidity sucks for medications and supplements. So do extreme temperatures.

I guess some people who store their stuff improperly for long periods of time will experience deterioration and have no idea why.

The boiling point of water? Thankfully not!

Probably very slowly, but it depends on *how* improperly. As far as I can recall, I've never encountered a pill or capsule that was ruined in storage. But then again I never stored them in direct sunlight or in a very damp environment.

I am moving them to the coolest room. The fridge feels like a bad idea.

Halfway. You don't say what units you mean. I assume it is Fahrenheit? What is it in Celsius?

37 Celsius is 100 Fahrenheit. I should have said as some here are not from US or UK. Believe the UK uses fahrenheit, too.

Do you have a freezer? If so, humidity will not be an issue (it just condenses and freezes). If not, you can try a basement (if you have access to one). I'm wondering too if you can first seal (i.e. tupperware) the meds then put them in the fridge.

I'm pretty sure the packaging the medication is received in is usually airtight, whether it is a blister pack or a bottle.

There is info on the internet saying its not 100% airtight. Microcracks or whatever. The internet can really freak you out. I moved everything to the bed room and it is never warmer than 25C/77F there and about 50% humidity most of the time.

It is not just a few meds and a few supplements. It is a whole bunch of supplements. That is why I freaked out.

Microscopic cracks are probably a problem of microscopic proportions, like a storm in a teacup at most.

Well not everything I have is in blisters. Much of it is in little bottles. I do think it was good to not store it in the heat and not store it in a fridge either.
