I can't give you specifics--I'll defer to those at this site who are well-versed in the detailed physiologic effects of ADs on organ systems. However, I do know that ADs (Effexor and SSRIs, in particular) can impact neurotransmitters involving hormone regulation--including thyroid hormone function, estrogen, progesterone, FSH, prolactin, etc. As a result, some people have varying thryoid levels, and other unexpected
hormone changes.
This can contribute to the menstrual changes and breast changes that many women experience with ADs. With Effexor I experienced lactation (no I am not pregnant, and have no children) and increased menstrual flow. This dissipated after a while, as did the hair loss I experienced. I have been on Wellbutrin for about 5-6 weeks--also had hair loss and breasts never look the same two days in a row. In time these effects should go away, although, since we are all different, that may not be the case with some.

this might be too simplistic to be an actual answer, but its just a suggestion. breast size and menstrual flow also has to do with your nutrition and how much your eating, and i know that AD's can really affect that. are you still eating the same amount you were before? personally, the AD's made me stop eating and consequently i got smaller. hope it helps a little bit.

Effexor actually made me completely lose my appetite, i lost about 7 pounds in a week and i'm not over weight. At the same time my breasts became swollen and bigger.......so I couldn't really complain about that !!! Except it was a bit painfula t times >

i suppose i've been eating a bit more since being more and more medicated and being lifted out of a depression--escaping the guilt of just having a bite to eat.

i'm interested in the hormonal stuff because i was already porny cartoon-like before (skinny, big breasts) but it's just getting *out of hand.* i think small breasts are more convenient and better-looking. i think i look ridiculous. good thing: my period has become more regular.

Though I am sure weight gain or loss from a change in eating habits can influence menstrual cycles, etc., I have heard and read too many comments from women who have had signs and symptoms of hormone changes while taking ADs. I realize this is just anecdotal, but there are many reports of menstrual changes, acne, hair loss, bloating, not too mention the changes in libido that so many are concerned about. I have taken oral contraceptives for many years, and I thought effexor was somehow potentiating the effect of the pill (and later I thought the same with Wellbutrin). So I purposely went off the pill to see, if I experienced the same thing...which I did to a lesser degree.
Just as stress and depression can cause hormone changes in us (effecting adrenal and endocrine glands, etc., so can the meds that work on them.
Sorry this wasn't meant to be so long. There are a number of websites about women's reproductive anatomy and physiology--I know geocities has one. Such a web site will take you from the pituitary gland all the way to the ovaries!
I guess the bottom line is: once again--this is real--we're not just imagining this, even if someone tries to tell us we are!!!
Thanks
Kaysey
