I just added remeron to my list of medications and have been experiencing horrific nightmares from which I wake up with a very bad migraine and am often sick to my stomach. Has any one else experienced this? Thanks

Nightmares are common on almost any anti-depressant.
REMeron (note the REM) specifically changes sleep
architecture. The only anti-depressant that actually
quelled nightmares/intense dreaming for me was
Serzone (and I believe this action is documented).I haven't heard of the stomach aches being a typical
remeron side effect. In fact if memory serves me
correct remeron blocks a brain receptor that causes
nausea. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that
claim.
But anxiety induced stomach cramps from
nightmares would be different.A lot of meds would cause intense dreamine and
I would wake up in pools of sweat feeling panicky.
If rememeron persists it may not be your best med
idea. There is something in the med that makes
it a good anti-depressant but can cause transient
anxiety.Exactly what meds are you on? Maybe we can help
with some ideas to alleviate this.regards,

I am on Wellbutrin, prozac, zyprexa and now remeron too. I was just taken off serzone because it did not help my insomnia. I haven't slept for more than one hour at a time for almost seven weeks. I am also supposed to be taking 4mg Ativan/day and temazepam (30mg) but I stopped all bezo's last Friday in hopes that my sleeping would improve. (I have been on benzo's for over two years).
These dreams are very vivid and seem to attach to all senses (I hope that makes sense).>

I hope that you tapered the benzos slowly or else
I fear you may never sleep again in the short future.I'm a little surprised the Serzone didn't help with the sleep.
Its predecessor Trazodone is anecdotally good for
insomnia.
Serzone made me feel drugged out all the time.Wellbutrin and Prozac as you may know are activating.
Perhaps swapping thos meds for potentially less stimulating
meds would help (like Paxil instead of Prozac).
If its working hate to change something that's
not broken though.Also, ever consider a prescription sleep aid
like ambien. Maybe ativan?regards,

Hi Lilly,I had problems with sleep on remeron too. Just like JohnX, I did much better on serzone. I was lead to believe remeron would help my sleep, but I woke up more
frequently with nightmares (even 5X/night!) on the remeron than anything else. On serzone, I was down to less than one a week.
I was on remeron for 4 months and that aspect never got better for me. Good luck,karenR

I have been on Remeron at dose ranges from a tiny 2mg up to 30mg at bedtime and have experienced very vivid dreaming regardless of dose. I didn't experience any nightmares, however. The dreaming was more like "lucid" dreaming, where I had some control over what I dreamt about. I could be dreaming about something and wake up just a little and think about some variation on the dream and then go back into the dream and it would change! It was a little similar to the kind of in and out dreaming you have when you are running a fever. The main trouble I had with Remeron was reaching a state *sometime* during the morning where I was fully AWAKE. Effexor also provided very intensely colorful, but bizarre *almost* frighening type dreams-but I had no "control" over them.
