Life on the Boards

Posted by Shar on June 20, 2002, at 13:24:56

Seems strange to me...PSB seems to have changed quite a bit in the last few weeks (months? I lose track of time). Seems like the atmosphere used to be much less best friends, and more of everyone (well, not EVERYONE) participating in the threads. Seemed more like a classroom than the cafeteria at lunch time. I guess it might be time for me to take a break if it doesn't feel so supportive anymore.

Taking it under advisement.
Shar

I've noticed that the board seems less busy. I basically only check in here and over at admin to see who is having the latest row(just for fun) but I almost never go to social so I don't see what you see. I do see that every board is pretty quiet. But then, summer's here. Hopefully people are getting out more.
How are you doin Shar?

take care
Tina

Hi Shar, Seems like more old timers are leaving or is it my imagination?
I'm starting to feel like the thing that won't go home.

I'm still here, somewhere...

I tried to get on the board a few times, but for some reason, the board(s) loaded, but without the bulletin board parts. It seems to be working now. Oh well.

I broke up with my boyfriend of a year+ on Sunday (his idea, not mine) and am feeling kinda low. Part of me is blaming this depression for driving him away.

Don't have much else to say except work at school is eating up all of my time. I guess students don't get summers off anymore. I did get an A and 4 Bs as final grades.

My pdoc has halved my Serzone and added 50mg Zoloft. Wellbutrin stays the same. I'm signed up for horseback-riding lessons per his suggestion. Think it might have something to do with working on trust. Who knows anymore.

I do hope people will continue to check in here. I can relate to Phil's characterization of 'the thing that won't go home.' Pretty funny, considering we rarely get out of the house.

Well, it's insomnia time again, apparently. 5:29 a.m. and I'm still here, awake. Tina, I suppose I'd have to say I'm not doing so hot. It's hard for me to get up the energy to do much of anything.

Allison, Congrats on your good grades! You should probably get a banana split or something to celebrate (I guess we see where my mind is...).

And, to all a good night. Keep comin back!

Shar

I LOVED your pdoc's suggestion to go horseback riding- I have an Arabian in my yard who I love as much as a child. Whenever I'm down, I just go out there and hug her and get pushed by my dogs who get jealous. But from a personal perspective- riding through trails or whatever works better than any AD he could possibly prescribe. Sorry for the rambling- Judy

Hope you're feeling better today Shar. It's difficult when you have insomnia, I imagine you know all the tricks- but for some reason 7.5mg remeron is a guarantee for me. Are you obsessing over something? That's another guarantee to keep me awake. Please share what's bothering you, and maybe we can help. Take care, Judy

Judy,
Yes, obsessing is something I have mastered this lifetime. I am very good at it. And, I can obsess over the most minor things. Right now is sort of a biggie--money. Work also.

I have also had the WORST sinus infection I've ever had (only had a few), for about 4 weeks. I am SO weary of the PAIN. I can't afford a dr. and don't have health insurance...but I'm pretty sure I need antibiotics for this one. It is hanging on too long. I am taking OTC sinus stuff; I've started taking about three different medicines at once to try to alleviate the pain (facial pain and severe headache). Then I supplement with aspirin. Sheesh, what a life.

Well being in pain makes everything worse and sinus infections can cause some of the worst pain. A medrol pack (prednisone) will shrink the tissues in 24 hours- before antibiotics can even touch it. That will take care of the pressure headaches- honestly the worst of it. Day 1 is 40mg, then it steps down 5mg/day. If you can't afford to see a dr., can you go to the hosp -they HAVE to see you- serious sinus infections can be dangerous. And prednisone is pretty cheap- do you know anyone who will share (it's probably the most common cortisteroid). Once that's under control, let's talk some more. Take care, Judy

Yeah,
I think my pdoc is a horseman. I know you and he are right.

First lesson was Monday. I'm still sore everywhere from the waist down, and have bruises on my legs from the tack and from squeezing too hard I think. No. 2 is tonight. I used to take lessons when I was 10 or 12 and knew then how to post. Now there's something called a 2-point I need to master also. The posting didn't go so well Monday. Cal the Horse was terrific, though. Didn't seem to mind having me around picking at his feet, grooming, petting and talking to him... Also, when I was a girl, I didn't have to worry about coming down so hard on his back when mounting or posting, but now the instructor is warning me...

I hope some day that I will be able just to ride a horse around -- not in a ring.

Once you master the trot (posting)- the rest is a breeze. My horse has the smoothest canter, I feel like I'm flying. Since you've already had lessons as a child, I'm sure everything will come back. Is there someplace close by where you can open up- a field maybe? I defy you to think of one negative thought when you're out there galloping. Take care, judy

does not the trot pain the place you sot a lot? (nm) » judy1

Ah, the Wednesday night lesson started out rio bad but ended up Ok. New horse named Topper. He doesn't like his feet picked, and kept trying to nip me when I was trying to tighten the girth. Got into the ring late. Everyone else was already walking around on their horses. I was in a hurry. Forgot to retighten the girth. Tried to get on horse, saddle slid, horse got upset and took off RUNNING with me attached and foot caught in stirrup, sliding down side of horse, getting dragged, then fell off. Horse ran all over. Saddle slipped to belly. Instructor finally calmed down horse. I got off ground with scratches and dents. Got back on horse after a few tears. Rode as well as or better than anyone else that night. Posting and 2 point went very well. So did steering. I think this horse has a better cadence. After the first lesson, I had been asked by the instructor to come to the Basic class instead because she said I wasn't ready for Intermediate 1. Wednesday night, she suggested I stay in intermediate class. I guess I was good enough.

Thanks for your support.

Good for you! » allisonm

I've been riding since I was 5 years old, and about a year or 2 ago I sprayed my horse with conditioner before saddling and tightening her girth. As I was cantering a jogger came to close, spooked my horse and the same thing happened- the saddle slid and off I fell. My horse was trained well enough to stand patiently while I unsaddled her and then got spooked again (I don't know maybe a fly flew by) and off she went, and I walked 3 miles home in riding boots carrying her saddle and crying all the way (pride more then pain). When I got back she was contentingly eating our lawn and I just burst out laughing. See- it happens to everyone- good for you for getting back on! Take care-judy
