The World waits and whispers
behind closed doors and drawn curtains
and huddles secretly in darkened rooms
Outside cold cloaks the earth like a wet blanketthe festive season
Hah! that's a good one
the coming of the Christ
Well he didn't come to the party
the last two thousand odd years
so why is He going to make it this time...?The World waits and watches
Holds her breath in silent suspense
What calamity, atrocity, natural disaster
Will shatter the eerie peace
And rev up the sleeping engine of humanity...?The facade of hope
Like the Xmas lights
Grows tatty and second hand
Fifty years on it takes an effort
to smile and hope
When hope is a weary beggar
with mute hands in supplicationTime of Peace
Time of Joy
Those times were extinguished
With the last late night closing
Of the big department store
Now the fizz and the pizzazz have all gone
Held in suspension until the opening of the
January SalesUntil then we watch and we wait
And try to hide the existential vacuum
That gnaws at our souls
And we take stock of our eternal inventory
But the shelves are all bare
There is only silence, silence that stares
Into the endless emptiness that we call the soul

Hello,
Sorry for that. Some weakness prevents me from keeping my existential angst in my own front room. I have to go and vent it all in public...make a spectacle of myself. I'm sorry. Please dismiss the above as the rantings of an old fool who somehow got an education without learning anything and...
Merry Christmas to Everyone and Health, Happiness in the New Year.
