They Remembered Me Long Enough to Fire Me

Posted by Poet on November 25, 2006, at 12:32:31

I was only there for a month, two weeks of which the person who was supposed to be training me was absent and two other weeks my boss was absent. The flimsy excuse is my productivity was low.

I am devistated, unemployed and for those of you how know my long career failure history it'll take me a year to get another mindless job. I am trying not to blame myself, but I had to have done something.

I am sorry to hear about this Poet. I was happy for you when you got this job. From your previous post it sounds like that company is "clueless" -- and they have done you a favor by pink slipping you now to at least give you the opportunity to search for a decent company that has its act together before you got in too deep there. It doesn't sound like they were too organized or that they knew what they wanted out of this job. That said, I am sorry to hear; the best thing is get right back into the job search 9-5 I know easier said than done. The only reason you have to give in your interviews is it wasn't a good fit between the employer and you and move on from it. It happens to almost everyone in the workforce, keep trying for the job you want. Don't give up. Research companies and go after the good companies.

I'm so sorry that that happened. You didn't deserve it, so please keep trying not to blame yourself. How can anybody in a new position be expected to display high productivity without training or direction. They were completely unfair and unreasonable. And, if they were worried about your productivity, then why did they not raise it with you over the course of the month that you were there. Sounds like constructive dismissal to me. You are not the Queen of Employment Losers. Just sounds like you have had the unfortunate experience of having worked for the Kings of Employer Losers.

I don't want to sound trite, but keep your chin up. You will find a job where your worth is recognized and where your talents are valued.

Hi Canadagirl,

I am calling one of my former headhunters tomorrow and filing for unemployment compensation.

The catch with unemployment compensation is that have to be employed for a certain number of weeks and I wasn't. So then it goes back to the employer before the one who fired me and that employer can deny paying it because I left them with proper notice. The one before the jerk place is huge so maybe they wouldn't care. I don't know.

I am so discouraged. I try harder than anybody to get jobs, I take classes, I research companies, write thank you letters and get squat. To be doing this again so soon is just overwhelming, but I need a paycheck.

Hi Dreamboat Annie,

I'm filing for unemployment compensation, but I wasn't at the last job long enough to qualify for benefits so the state will go to the employer before that. I think they can deny paying it out because I left with proper notice. I'm calling one of my former headhunters, too. This is just so hard to have to go through again so soon.

I know I am better off emotionally not at that job, since their firing of me was gutless and unprofessional I suspect they would have treated me more and more poorly had they kept me on. I so hope you're right that I find a job where my worth is recognized, I need all the confidence I can get and I appreciate yours.
