Issues at Work

Posted by Tom Twilight on July 22, 2006, at 15:18:27

Hey all

Never posted on this board before

I just felt like I needed to post right now, got to get some stuff out of my system!

I work as a hospital porter in the UK, you'd think that hospital portering would be quite a pleasant job.
If you work in hospital you must care about people write? Unfortunatly thats absolutely wrong!

I'm really fed up with my job, I just graduated a couple of years ago.
I was real mess after my degree, so I took this job as a kind of "stop gap" filling in type of thing.

I'm now to depressed to leave right now.....
I haven't had much luck finding a good Doc, as I live in the UK :(

The work environment is horrible, my manager is cool, but a lot of the others are mostly horrible.
What really bothers me is this:

There's a disabled guy at work, I think he's got Fragile X or something.
Anyway he gets bullied unmercifully

He's also a really nice guy, he can be annoying sometimes, but thats just because he's disabled.

Hard to think this kind of thing still happens in the 21st century.
I feel weak for not doing anything about it, then again I don't want to annoy the others, some of them are quite scary

In what way, scary?

Maybe you can help this guy out, without antagonizing the other employees.

Or maybe you can inconspicuously try to be around when he might be vulnerable, as sometimes bullies won't do things if they can't totally get away with them.

You wouldn't have to be overt that you're not in sympathy with what they're doing, just be more there, present, and yet stay neutral, because as a witness, you can represent some sort of moral stance, without actually saying or doing anything.
