Easy Withdrawal with Prozac

Posted by canadiangirl3 on March 29, 2005, at 15:27:56

I never thought there would be an instant cure for the HELL I've been going thru with withdrawal side effects. Like so many of you have written about. My therapist suggested 20 mg of Prozac to keep up my Seratonin levels. It works like a charm. I have absolutely no more of the side effex I used to have with Effexor and I am tapering off 15-30 mg every three days. I'll will be (side) Effexor free in a matter of weeks. PLease try this. There is no need to suffer anymore. This is not a pharmaceutical push as some of your doctors in the US do. This is a sound method for withdrawing of Effexor-recognized by the psychiatric community. I am living proof and feeling great!

Hi.

Thanks for posting your experience.

Will you be taking 20mg of Prozac every day until you've discontinued the Effexor?

I am very happy to here that Prozac hit the target for you. Not too many people here have described their actual experiences with the Prozac cross-over method, despite it being recommended by just about everyone.

Totally cool. :-) Keep feeling better.

Yeah! I want to thank you for your post as well. I'm in the midst of getting off effexor without anything and the mental rollercoaster is just as bad as coming off alcohol when I was a functioning alcoholic

Yes, I take 20mg every day with my Effexor. Every 3 to 4 days I can taper off just a bit more. This weekend I'll go down to 37.5 Effexor tabs daily and so on. At first I was hesitant about taking yet another AD to taper off this one but I think coming off the 20 mg of Prozac will not be so bad. I am looking forward to being drug - free!

I can't imagine what coming off alcohol must be like. But congrats on being sober! I do know the roller coaster you are experiencing though. Try out the Prozac. It is working wonders for me. Like night and day!

Just wanted to alert people. This does not work for everyone. I tried it with paxil several times. But I am extremely med sensitive.

It is definitely worth a try for anyone suffering from SSRI withdrawal. I think for most people it works but there are still a small percentage of people who it doesn't.

Congrats!

Hi!

I've come off Paxil twice. One time I substituted 20mg Prozac for 20mg Paxil- I didn't have any withdrawal symptoms when I switched to Prozac, nor did I have any withdrawal symptoms when I abruptly d/ced the Prozac a few months later. Because Prozac has a long half-life, it can take a while to reach a adequate concentration in the blood, I think some people might need to take a 'loading dose' of more than 20mg for a few days when transferring abruptly from another SSRI to Prozac.

Another time I went off 20mg Paxil by going down to 10mg for a few weeks and then stopping abruptly. I had some withdrawal symptoms for about a week after I stopped.

Ed.

I don't think using Paxil to ease withdrawal symptoms is the same as using Prozac. Maybe my posting was confusing. I'm now effexor free-one week now- and had almost no withdrawal symptoms due to a 20mg dose of Prozac each day. I went from 75 to 37.5 to 0 in about 10 days. I could not have done it without the Prozac. I'm meeting with my doctor now to look at next steps for easing off the Prozac.
