For anyone who had an easy time with withdrawal:

Posted by SLS on February 24, 2005, at 9:01:59

Hi.

For anyone who had an easy time with drug withdrawal on at least one occasion:

I have a question.

What other drugs were you taking at the time? It is not necessary that they be psychiatric drugs.

Thanks.

If Prozac was part of the plan, I did indeed have an easier time with withdrawal. Otherwise, I don't remember any other drugs --when I used SSRIs, I typically was not on other classes of medications.

I had no problems withdrawing from Prozac, Wellbutrin, and Lamotrigine. Adderall was tough for about 3-4 days but then no problem. When I went off Prozac I was on Wellbutrin and Adderall at the time. When I went off the Lamotrigine I was only on Wellbutrin as well.

I was on Effexor for 2 weeks a few years ago then withdrew but it was only 75mg and such a short period of time I'm sure it doesn't really count.

When I discontinued Paxil, I took the occassional Xanax (not daily), but I did that when I was on Paxil (usually because my PMS can be brutual and lengthy!). I don't know if this made any difference, but I was very physically active when I discontinued - long (1 - 1.5 hours), vigorous walks along the river daily. The only other things I took were a multi-vitamin and vitamin C.

It is likely that some people have experienced some degree of withdrawal, but just wrote it off as a really bad flu or virus or something. I don't know.

I sorta answered this in a previous thread, but I'll post here to so it becomes part of this discussion. The last two times I quit or switched an antidepressant I was on a mood stabilizer at the same time. These both went pretty well.

The only time I stopped a head-med abruptly, I was taking the mood stabilizer Lamictal alone (and it was working pretty well on my depression, too) when I developed a small rash and my pdoc made me get off it. She wanted me to stop immediately, but I talked her into letting me tapering it over ONE week. That was a nightmare and I became so depressed. Yikes!

I was always switched onto another AD at the same time as my last dose. I also have always been on xanax, or valium. Fondly, Phillipa

however..this is not someting to mess about..
always tell someone you trust about your plans..
it may take years and years..
hold tight..

Have never had a problem withdrawing from MAOI Parnate.

Had no problems coming off Klonopin taper after substituting the equivalent amount of Valium.

I had no trouble withdrawing from Paxil or Zoloft. I don't remember exactly how I did them but I tapered at a standard rate - not too slowly or too quickly.

While getting off Remeron, I also was taking Wellbutrin SR. No problem. I also have been weaned off Effexor, Neurontin, Zoloft, Lithium, Celexa and Serzone without troubles. However, I am extremely grateful that my pdoc seems to know what he is doing.

I stopped Zoloft and Welbutrin cold turkey, a couple of weeks ago I was switched and stopped Desipramine and started Cymbalta the next day. I almost quit Lexapro cold turkey but had to start taking 5 mg for awhile since I started to get a feeling like I was on a boat when I was sitting or lying down after a couple of days. Recently I was a little slow to refill my Lamictal and was physically ill after missing 2 doses.

Hi.

Thanks for responding.

> I stopped Zoloft and Welbutrin cold turkey, a couple of weeks ago

You were on Lamictal during this period? Anything else? What happened with the Lexapro?

So, is this the order?

1. Discontinue Zoloft and Wellbutrin abruptly on the same day - what dosages?
2. Begin desipramine the next day - how many days did you take it for?
3. Discontinue desipramine and begin Cymbalta on the same day.

Did withdrawal symptoms develop at all while you were on desipramine?

> Recently I was a little slow to refill my Lamictal and was physically ill after missing 2 doses.

Me too. For me, anxiety became prominent. I am currently taking Lamictal 300mg. What sorts of things did you experience when you missed doses?

Reading my post back it didn't make alot of since. I quit Zoloft and Welbutrin maybe 7 years ago, I was also taking Buspar. I went without treatment until a little over a year ago, I had pretty much given up and was just waiting for my father to pass. Now I have a son who is almost 2 so I'm trying the meds again. I was on Lexapro from then until sometime in December. The only real effects from Lexapro were increased apathy and anorgasmia. I've been on Lamictal for almost a year now.

> 1. Discontinue Zoloft and Wellbutrin abruptly on the same day - what dosages?

It was either 75 or 100 of Zoloft and 300 Welbutrin.

> 2. Begin desipramine the next day - how many days did you take it for?

No, I went from Lexapro to desipramine 50 mg for 2 weeks then 150 for about another 6 weeks.

> 3. Discontinue desipramine and begin Cymbalta on the same day.

Well the next day.

> Did withdrawal symptoms develop at all while you were on desipramine?

No I did feel a little strange after quitting the Lexapro so I started again at 5 mg, that was over by the time I started desipramine. At that time I was also taking 300 mg Provigil and 30 mg Buspar but I stopped those when I started desipramine. I didn't have any problems starting or stopping desipramine, while taking it I was real moody and quick tempered though. I'm thinking of trying to talk my doc into adding it back in since I just read this may have been a sign it was starting to work.

> Me too. For me, anxiety became prominent. I am currently taking Lamictal 300mg. What sorts of things did you experience when you missed doses?

I can't really explain it too well, things looked weird, kind of darker but brighter if that makes any sense. Sort of like a flash had gone off a second ago. I was dizzy and feeling kind of disoriented. I've missed doses before and not noticed much, this was after 2.5 days without it. I'm taking 200 mg of Lamictal.

Geez reading this back I'm confused myself but I'm too tired. If you can't make heads or tails of it sorry, I'll try to clear it up.

I'm beginning to look at Buspar to be used to minimize SRI withdrawal. Really theoretical. Your experience might be evidence of this.

Thanks, Rick.
