Here is a summary of my experiences with the latest POISONS prescribed by INCOMPETENT PSYCHIATRISTS for treatment of alcoholism:
ANTABUSE - after two months, itchy welts on legs, yeast infection ("jock itch"), open sores on lips, sores in mouth, chronic low-grade fever/chills. After stopping Antabuse, all problems except jock itch cleared up. MD (NOT psychiatrist) suggested Lotrimin for jock itch and it is now clearing up.
CAMPRAL - the "WONDER DRUG" for alcoholics, supposed to stop cravings. Here's how it did that: chronic diarrhea, unbelievably intense flatulence, nausea, insomnia because of above symptoms. If you're lactose-intolerant, you know these symptoms well. After stopping Campral, symptoms vanished. Have to admit - when I felt that way, the last thing I wanted to do was drink.
Nice try, you INCOMPETENT JUNK SCIENTISTS. Any more BRIGHT IDEAS? How about CYANIDE? Oh, right... then I wouldn't PAY MY BILLS, WOULD I?
I can't believe these fools have the nerve to call themselves professionals. What kind of pathetic bum takes money from alcoholics in exchange for slowly poisoning them?

>I decided that the side effects, which have diminished during the 3 months I've been on this med, have been more than worth it.
To treat my depression and anxiety, I have put up with side effects including headache, nausea, insatiable appetite, constipation, diarrhea, insomnia, excessive sleep, to name but a few. Thank goodness these weren't all experienced by taking a single medication! But I've been on many, like many people here.
To me it's a decent enough trade: I get to stay sober and I deal with the side effects by taking a fiber forming nutritional supplement. Far from being a poison for me, Campral has given me a chance to recover my sobriety.
and that's my 2 cents.

Reggie,
I'm sorry to hear about your suffering and frustration with... I was about to say "western" medicine but, to tell the truth, I've had problems with "eastern" medicine too. Just replace antabuse or camprol with a chinese herb and you have the same result.
You have such insight, hang in there. I feel for you.
