a "dry drunk". Yuk!!! I had heard people talk about it in AA, and a friend of mine with many years of sobriety told me to watch out for it. Ya right, I thought. Well, I guess I was warned!! I don't think I isolated this much even in the last stages of my drinking career. Man, I hope I get through this soon. Oh well, that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger - right?!?!?!?

do you still go to meetings? or do you feel that you can't get to one while you feel this way?
even if it's a "dry drunk", at least you're still sober, and that is the important thing.

Hi PC!

No, I haven't been to a meeting in close to a year. They just don't seem to do it for me anymore. I know I am not going to drink, so that's not an issue. I am just scared of how I feel - dead inside. I have never felt like this before. I don't even remember feeling this empty and lost when stopped drinking nine years ago. And, going to a meeting wouldn't necessarily help because I internalize so much that I would not likely share how I am feeling. I am surprised that I have said this much here. I need to figure things out myself. I have probably been living with a horseshoe up my butt for too long anyway. Well, sorry to bring you down. Thanks for listening. I will be ok.

Well, if you don't get anything out of the meetings you could read ch 5 of the blue book, or pick up some meditations or something (anything) to get your brain to focus on sobriety. A 'dry drunk' is someone that doesn't concentrate on any of the self improvememt or self awareness involved in staying sober.

Thanks AuntieMel. I do use "Daily Reflections" and "As Bill Sees It" regularly. I also go back to the 12 steps and "Living Sober" when I need to. I haven't stopped concentrating on self-improvement or self-awareness, I have just been really tired and lethargic (physically and mentally) the past week or so, but it appears that it may just have been really, really bad PMS (it's so true that for some it gets worse the older one gets - YUK). Anyway, I will be ok, just feeling a bit discouraged.

Thank you so much partlycloudy. I got all teary when I read your post. Don't really feel like I deserve much these days (have never really been like this before and it's freaking me out). Anyways, no wallowing allowed for me LOL :-) I will be fine.

You take care ok.

Tamara

I'm a firm believer in wallowing. Like I've said before - you can't move up unless there's a down to move up from.
