why is it that that some substances seem to spur addictions in some people but not others? for example, there isn't a day that goes by that i don't wish i could smoke myself stoned out of my gourd but at the same time, alcohol holds no temptation for me at all. i usually don't even want to drink more than a couple of drinks or drink for more than a couple of days at a time. i get sick of the taste no matter what the drink. pot, on the other hand, i could smoke 24/7. any ideas?

Maybe it's genetic? Or maybe we all just have our vices that we prefer.. I understand what you're saying, I could smoke myself silly all day as well.. Question though, do you smoke cigarettes? I'm guessing its better that you sick to only one kind of smoke, if you have to smoke at all..
- clean for almost 2 days..

But then drinking is an oral activity too...
I hear you though. Dope does it for me whereas alchohol does not. I have a couple and then any more and usually I feel sick. Sometimes I can get nicely drunk in some social settings but I always want to be MORE high and for me the sick comes before I get the high I want. Dope on the other hand is just great.
Don't know why. My family members are more drinkers and while they smoke cigarettes they don't smoke dope. No idea...

For me, I find I crave alcohol, the slow, softening, numbing feel of it. Pot makes me paranoid, makes me feel as if I am out of control, so I have no interest in going near it any more although I have spent long periods of time smoking it every day.

Smokey,
Be thankful you are dependant on the lessor of the two. Take it from the 'British medical Journals' 'The Lancet'- "the smoking of Marijuana, even long term, is not harmfull to health"Marijuana is nowhere near as likely as Alcohol to produce dependency, and doesn't damage every bodily organ as, Industrial Solvent-sorry Alcohol does.
OZZY- had it right in 1982 when he wrote 'Demon Alcohol' a drug that has seriously damaged his health and Central Nervous System- and a Drug he struggles with daily, not to consume until he blacks out.

I'd just like to plug the double double quotes feature at this site:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#amazon
The first time anyone refers to a book, movie, or music without using this option, I post this to try to make sure he or she at least knows about it. It's just an option, though, and doesn't *have* to be used. If people *choose* not to use it, I'd be interested why not, but I'd like that redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration:

Thanks!
