Verne - thank you for book recommendation

"7 Weeks to Sobriety" was an interesting read. I have upped my intake of several supplements and I swear I can feel a difference. It makes sense that drinking chronically would alter your nutritional needs, I had never considered it before.

PC,

Glad the book has helped.

I found the section of the book that identifies the type of alcoholic especially helpful. Omega 3 Oil has made a huge difference for me, which was recommended for my type.

I'm drinking now. First it was Halloween (ugh), then it was Election Night, and now I'm drinking to deal with flu-like symptoms. I haven't had the flu in 5 years (maybe more) and don't tolerate being sick very well.

I have a long history of drinking my way through colds and the flu. Somehow being drunk or hungover masks the pain. Kinda like hitting myself over the head with a hammer because my scalp itches.

I hope to sober up soon. Hope you're not drinking and doing well. I had over six months sobriety recently and then two months right before the Halloween relapse. Halloween is my least favorite holiday.

I'm trying to keep it down to a murmur tonight.

For some unknown but much appreciated reason, I have not been drinking for a couple of weeks now and lately I'm not thinking about it much. The holidays are a dangerous time, especially with family and company around. I plan to take a lot of walks around the block.

What are the supplements you are taking? I am taking salmon oil but have not felt an ounce of difference in my miserable existance.
Still drinking like a fish even though I take fish oil!

I take a multi vitamin high in B complex, vitamin E (yes I saw on the news they said more people die you take it? Next week they'll say it saves lives), and Evening Primrose Oil, for the GLA properties. Now, I'm also transitioning from Effexor to Cymbalta - tapering down on one as I begin the other - and maybe that's helping too, though I doubt it. The only effect Effexor ever had on my drinking was to make the aftermath very painful. No deterrent at all.

If you can get your hands on this book, it has some good outlines. I did not go through the entire program, as it calls for an awful lot of blood testing, but it turns out that I'd had some of them done recently already, like liver and thyroid function.

I say, whatever helps.

Sabrina,

I'm taking:

RxOmega-3 Factors (EPA 400mg/DHA 200mg) by Natural Factors

Flaxseed Oil (1,000mg) Nature Made

Vitamin E - natural mixed tocopherols. I take 200-400mgs about every other day.

I usually take 2 of the omegas and 2 flaxseed oil softgels per day. I notice a huge difference when I take this combination.

You might want to consider taking some of the amino acids and something like niacinamide for alcohol cravings. This is discussed at length on the alternative board.

I've been drinking recently but look forward to a long dry spell. I just can't get away with it anymore.
