Haven't Drank in 29 days

Posted by verne on October 15, 2004, at 21:15:53

I've been on a bit of a dry drunk lately. I have no easy way to get alcohol - too far to lug and I don't drive. (hypervigilant agoraphobe) My delivery system of 12 years years is no longer operational and can't easily be replaced. (a good thing, I'm not trying to remedy)

So I'm getting "high" with a blue-lotus, white-lotus, damiana mix in a water pipe. At least I threw out the kratom, wild dagga, morning glory seeds, and prickly poppy. Blue Lotus is a mild sedative and aphrodesiac. Not as good as pot but legal.

Anyway, I'm on thin ice. Another warning sign is if I start putting chocolate syrup on everything. There's something about chocolate that triggers drinking - usually the next day. But I didn't buy any chocolate today and won't have another chance for a couple weeks. (I hire someone to take me shopping about twice a month)

I hope to start meditating to the brainwave CD's tomorrow and go for a long walk. I see the ice cracking.

I've been sober a month but I like to remind myself that I'm really only sober as long as I've been out of bed this morning. Keeps me more in the moment. This is a daily struggle.

Otherwise, I'm still on a bit of a "dry drunk". I'm just frittering around, not doing much except "not drinking".

But I'll take a dry drunk over a wet drunk.

Verne, you have the right attitude - one day at a time. If you follow the NFL, you know that the New England Patriots are on a 20-game winning streak. However, whenever anyone on the team is interviewed, they don't refer to it as a 20-game winning streak. They refer to it as 20 1-game winning streaks.

Good luck, and best wishes.

<<< Obviously you've discovered alcohol's dirty little secret.... Booze is cut with caramel syrup; gives it that golden brown color (alchol is colorless). So, czek it out. You are affected by sugar as much as the booze. ADHD doctors have been saying that for years. Sugar is the "booger", not just alcohol. Tabacco is cured in syrup, hence cigarette addiction has sugar included as co-addictive with nicotinic acid (niacin). The vitamin niacin slathered with caramel syrup... you get a cigarette! Why no addictions to niacin? No sugar present.
