Well, I used to be major into the psychdelics, and still do them for song writing inspirtion.
As a novel author by profession, though, i am very carefull how much I use, usually less than once a month now. I'd be interested to hear your opinions on Acid, LSD, Shrooms, ETC.

welp ive done some experimentation myself. my general feeling about illegal drugs is that I am only interested in psychedelics, they seem to me to have the most capability for productive use. I have taken LSD a number of times, and I can say that it really opened my eyes to a great deal of things about myself, and about my perceptions. When I found my perceptions and mode of thinking so greatly altered, I realized that my day to day mental construct was simply that, a construct. This is often referred to as 'breaking down the ego'. Once you can step outside of your ego it can be quite liberating, though it changed my perceptions forever. My only problem with LSD is that it tends to last far too long for my tastes, sometimes 12-14+ hours.. this can be very exhausting. As for shrooms, this is my favorite substance, although one I use very infrequently. It can show you some amazing things, and best of all it only lasts a few hours and is generally much milder than LSD as long as you take moderate doses.
Now having said these positive things, I also know that some people can 'lose' themselves to a degree with too much psychedelic usage. Such powerful experiences can tend to detach you from day to day life, and your personality/ego which do serve an important function. Also, I believe that these drugs really are unnecessary, and that real enlightenment comes from living life and meditation/knowledge of self. Drugs really can be useful just as something to open the doors in your mind which show you altered states of conciousness. I recommend anyone who chooses to experiment with hallucinogens, do so in a safe environment under supervision, and with a positive mindset. Also make sure to read up on dosages and know its FAR better to err on the side of caution in this regard.

If I can add thruppence ($0.03 for US people...)
In my (fairly considerable) experience, people can get into _bad_ messes from using psychedelics as anything other than *extremely* occasional "holidays" from normality. Besides, for myself, using them one day means taking them the next won't work (!).

i think acid is a baaaaad idea, i tripped alot when i was in school (cant remember how many, more than 15 or 20 and more than one hit mostly) and i know the harsh chemicals fried my brain...forever
but on the other hand, shrooms, i think are awesome, thier natural! i have used to try to become connected and aware...like a grounding to consciousness, which i hope to lead to spiritual enlightenment, a hierophany or even a glimpse...i get pretty creative too; and shrooms have been the only mind-altering substance (not counting prescribed meds, nicotine, and caffeine) that i'd still enjoy (for the past couple years) besides alcohol. unfortunately being on lexapro i abstain, i'm scared of having a serotonin thing (whatsitcalled) i tried to do some research about the action of ssri and that of shrooms on serotonin and it seems like a bad idea to do both, though i don't totally understand; and i did have one uncomfortable experience

Hmmm...
I recently read that acid doesn't work if you're on an SSRI (or I presume, SNRI) cos the trip is caused by a serotonin flood of sorts, and the AD stops *that* working. This makes sense as I will admit to having a tab a few months ago and getting *nothing* off it although my partner had the next one on the sheet and said it was great. (I was still taking Effexor at the time).
Ah, info, info, info...

i think i heard that too...about acid and ssris. serotonin sydrome is what i couldn't think of, am pretty sure w/ shrooms and ssri you'd mess urself up since shrooms increase serotonin and ssri's block the uptake of it your brain would OVERLOAD!
