In reply to LSD,shrooms, and the common psychadelic :-), posted by SydBarrett on November 7, 2003, at 23:08:34
welp ive done some experimentation myself. my general feeling about illegal drugs is that I am only interested in psychedelics, they seem to me to have the most capability for productive use. I have taken LSD a number of times, and I can say that it really opened my eyes to a great deal of things about myself, and about my perceptions. When I found my perceptions and mode of thinking so greatly altered, I realized that my day to day mental construct was simply that, a construct. This is often referred to as 'breaking down the ego'. Once you can step outside of your ego it can be quite liberating, though it changed my perceptions forever. My only problem with LSD is that it tends to last far too long for my tastes, sometimes 12-14+ hours.. this can be very exhausting. As for shrooms, this is my favorite substance, although one I use very infrequently. It can show you some amazing things, and best of all it only lasts a few hours and is generally much milder than LSD as long as you take moderate doses.
Now having said these positive things, I also know that some people can 'lose' themselves to a degree with too much psychedelic usage. Such powerful experiences can tend to detach you from day to day life, and your personality/ego which do serve an important function. Also, I believe that these drugs really are unnecessary, and that real enlightenment comes from living life and meditation/knowledge of self. Drugs really can be useful just as something to open the doors in your mind which show you altered states of conciousness. I recommend anyone who chooses to experiment with hallucinogens, do so in a safe environment under supervision, and with a positive mindset. Also make sure to read up on dosages and know its FAR better to err on the side of caution in this regard.
