I thought you were already gone! You have fun, and thanks for the support on the other thread! I wish I was going with you (although I have no idea what Bruce Peninsula is). It sounds very vacationy.

I like the cottage you'll be staying in.
This Bruce Peninsular...is it a peninsular into the sea. Does Ontario make it to the sea? Or is that Quebec?

> -T****Hi TC - I put a 'thread' up a few above this one with links to videos that show what it's like where we're going.
The main 2-lane highway goes up the middle. It's quite pastoral, mainly - old farms, fields etc. On the West side of the peninsula it's not very nice - at least I don't like it - sort of wall-to-wall small junky-type cottages. (Not totally like that, but mostly). On the East side there are forests, huge cliffs - VERY dramatic; a lot of Crown Land (National Parks - Nature; no houses etc) & some Native Reserves.) The photos are the East side. It's quite spectacular.
Yayy.. I wish you could come also!!! & you're most welcome for the support. You deserve all the love & support going!!
Best of luck & love, Kath

yeah it's a cute little cottage! And nobody around - I like that!
Nope Ontario is right in the middle of Canada...touches 4 of the 5 "GREAT LAKES" - Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, Lake Superior & Lake Huron, which has a HUGE BAY called Georgian Bay. Lake Huron is the 3rd largest freshwater lake in the world! #1 Lake Superior (also a Great Lake touching Ontario) #2 Lake Victoria in Africa, #3 Lake Huron!!! The Peninsula juts North with Lake Huron on the West & Georgian Bay on the East.
Quebec hits the Atlantic Ocean, way far north.
How's that for a geography lesson? I didn't even know Quebec hit the ocean - asked my husband & he told me! LOL
hugs, Kath

Are all the Great Lakes freshwater?
I need a map.

Awesome! There's nothing more peaceful IMHO than a secluded nature setting! Enjoy the peace, and if you think about it, send good peaceful vibes my way. Just face south, I'll get it.

Yes. They are immense. They contain greater than 20% of the world's fresh water, more than 22,500 cubic kilometers, all told.

The area Kath is visiting is the peninsula right above the word "Ontario". The peninsula is a section of a limestone escarpment that stretches for hundreds of kilometers, and includes the large island cluster to the NW, and extends SE to the junction of Lakes Erie and Ontario, where it is responsible for the glorious Niagara Falls.
Incidentally, some cedars clinging to the face of the escarpment have been growing for over 6000 years. A hiking trail runs the length of the escarpment, and environmental protections cover most of it.

There's a story about the Great Lakes and that gulf stream thing?
I forget. All the water broke out and upset the salinity and the current stopped? If so, why are the lakes not salty now? (stupid question)I read about the Mediterranean....how it was a basin and then the land broke at Gibralter and the sea flowed in.
'5 million years agoAfrica was directly joined to Eurasia, with the Alps and the Atlas Mountains piled high on either side of the dry Meditteranean trench. But then the natural dam at Gibralter broke. A gigantic waterfall of sea water, one hundred times the size of Victoria Falls rushed in.'And there's that idea about the Amazon.....how it used to flow the other way and came out around Ecuador (when Africa and South America were joined). Then much later, after the continents had seperated, these mountains sprang up stopping the outward flow and creating a big marsh until finally the Amazon came out in the east.

Thanks all who gave nice wishes.
Went Saturday - got a phonecall Tuesday nite from son, who had been kicked out of the nice place he was sharing with 2 friends.
There'd apparently been some phonecalls over the weeks to the police regarding noise. That weekend, son had some friends in....other roommates were away for weekend; their friends came over also & police came due to noise.
Son tried to deal with it (is not very assertive) & police came back.
Monday, when he got home from work, roommates said that landlord had said they had to all leave; they said they weren't even there; landlord said it was all 3 or the 1 who was there.
I am bummed out....I know it's what it is, but it isn't as if the others were little angels. ANYhow, son is at our house 'til he gets a place; I'm NOT doing great. At least he has a part time job now which he's being responsible about (even to arriving early). I hope THAT continues well.
Am going to Killbear tomorrow.
I feel SO tired of problems. Usually daily have a thought of "I don't want to do this any more. How can I bear this." Not ideation as to doing anything. Just SO tired of this part of my life.
Sorry I didn't post before. I'll read tomorrow before I leave. I hope I can just really relax & enjoy my holiday.
I am going to ask my husband if he's okay with me not phoning home. I think I will do better if I don't know what's going on. (for ex if son lost job).
Blah. In fact, BAH HUMBUG. :-)
Love to all my friends & sorry I haven't read ANY posts.
I have felt too overwhelmed by my feelings to go online.
love, Kath
