I've discovered that having support in the form of being accountable to a real live person is really valuable to me. Without a tutor I didn't study, but now that I have tutors I'm getting A's.
I think the same might be true for weight loss. I'm thinking maybe being accountable to real people will help me lose weight.
What is Weight Watcher's like? Do they help? I'm thinking of joining.
Anyone have experience with Weight Watcher's?
I don't have too much weight to lose, so I'm thinking I can get to my goal weight (which has to be within their acceptable weight ranges) and acheive lifelife membership.

I just read on their website that having a BMI of 20-25 means you can't join. Maybe I will contact them and ask. That sucks.

OK this is what the website says:
"Any person who weighs within five pounds of the bottom of the weight goal range (BMI 20-25) for his or her height is not eligible for membership."
I think they mean any person with a weight of within 5 pounds of BMI 20 is not eligible right? Is that what they mean?
In that case, I am eligible! :-)

Ugggh ! I wrote a long post but it disapeared! Well anyways it is a wonderful program, my doctor even recommends it. The healthier you eat , the more you get to eat! lol I really like this site and message boards. Maybe it might help answer some of your quesions. But I would call in the morning and ask them about questions.

It's a very healthy diet I believe that even diabetics can be on weight watchers. So now they have a website too? But don't you still have to attend meetings and be weighed in weekly? Phillipa

Thanks for the website! I think I'll drop by to WW's and check them out. They're really close by.
Then I can ask if I can join.

Deneb, this is just my opinion and I could be wrong, but you're not even close to being fat (based on what I've read about you). I think maybe you make too big of a deal out of it. Why do you want so badly to lose weight?

I want to lose weight to look more fit. Plus I need motivation for exercise.
I emailed WW's last night and I got a reply today. I'm eligible! The centre isn't open today, so I'm going to join tomorrow. I'm excited. :-)
I'm going to get healthy. I hope to reach my goal weight and become a lifetime member, then as long as I maintain my weight loss, meetings are free.
I'm going to do this! I'm excited.

I live in Canada and there is a great plan that helps you lose weight, maintain your target weight and doesn't require counting points. It is called Mincavie (loosely translated from french it means Thin for life, I believe). It is a healthy plan, where all food groups are represented. It also has a group and regular meetings for encouragement and support as well as weigh-ins. There are also recipe books. Although I didn't join the group, a few of my friends did and they found it very useful. I did follow the plan when I wanted to lose a few pounds, and I found it easy to follow and I didn't feel deprived or even like I was "dieting". It is a great plan because it teaches you healthy eating habits. One of my friends lost 40lbs (weight she had to lose) and in probably 8 years she has not gained back a pound. I think very highly of this particular program. Personally, I have never been particularly impressed with Weight Watchers from what I have seen (never followed it myself) because I don't like the idea of having a certain number of points for each day. This doesn't, in my opinion, encourage healthy eating choices or help develop healthy eating habits. Then again, perhaps the program has changed.

Yesterday I had my first meeting. So far so good, I'm sticking with the plan. I feel good about this. I think this will work. Knowing that I have to weigh in every week keeps me on track.

Today was my second Weight Watcher's meeting. I lost 2.5 pounds! I'm happy. It's really working. I stuck with the plan for a whole week. I think I can do this.

I just started Week 4 and had my weigh in today. I lost 4 pounds since the beginning. :-)
Hopefully I will lose 5 pounds/month. I signed up for 4 months of Weight Watchers so hopefully I will have lost 20 pounds by then, bringing me close to 99 lbs. :-) That's my goal, to be in the double digits.
I'm going to be thin when I see Babblers again in May. I'm really doing it. I'm going to succeed.
My leader said my body may not want to be at 99 pounds, but I'm still going to aim for it.
I'm happy. I'm going to do even better from now on. I''ve been getting a balance of -20 points/week so far (eating 20 points past my flex points), but I'm going to quit doing that. If I can lose eating more than the max number of points, I can lose more if I eat the max number of points.
This is the end of the thread.
